VirtueMart & RokQuickCart are both 3rd party additional components that run inside the Joomla! CMS. These are ideally suited to a company that has a business presence online and would like to add a shopping cart system to their existing Joomla! site.

RokQuickCart is a very lightweight shopping cart system, and would normally be used for a company that would have tens of products, rather than hundreds or thousands.

VirtueMart is a larger component that allows for categorisation of products, which in turn will allow for a larger catalog.

Whilst both these Joomla! components won't match dedicated eCommerce systems such as Magento or osCommerce, it's worth noting that none of the dedicated eCommerce systems can match the CMS features of Joomla!
